Art meets communication at SEIF

Presented during the course of the three-day event was the 2023 edition of Sails Unfurled, the Legambiente campaign that organises voluntary sailing camps dedicated to monitoring waste on beaches and in the sea, cleaning the coastline and raising awareness among tourists and swimmers, and representatives of the "Sail&Explore" school, the project of the Swiss NGO of the same name that aims to spread awareness around the issue of microplastics, were hosted on the island.

There were also many activities for children with morning and afternoon training programmes held by Legambiente - Tuscan Archipelago section, marine biologist - and former UNESCO "Woman of the Sea" award winner - Marta Musso, and Viola Centi with her folk dance workshop. For deep-sea diving enthusiasts there were also "Diving with SEIF" sessions. The collaboration with the Elba Diving Centre of Marciana Marina gave everyone the opportunity to dive in and discover the sea at close quarters.

Finally, under the starry skies of Marciana Marina, SEIF dedicated some space to the arts, a key vehicle for bringing environmental issues to a wider audience, with theatre and musical evenings designed to spread a new culture of the sea. The evenings at SEIF were brought to life by the musicians of Banda Osiris with their "4 fish out of water" show, which turned into a musical journey through the problems that afflict our planet, the "Tarantella - Folk Rhythms" musical show by Viola Centi which provided a new soundtrack to Ulysses' epic Nostos, and the "History of the Sea" show performed and directed by Alessandro Vanoli, which covers everything from geology and coastal people to discoveries, ships, wars, myths and dreams, fish and sea creatures.
